Xiaomi Partners With Foxconn To Set Up Manufacturing Unit In India

Chinese smartphone company, Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn to set up its first manufacturing unit in India at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The partnership has already started to bear fruit with the launch of  first ‘Made In India’ smartphone- Redmi 2 Prime, which is priced at INR 6,999.

Xiaomi is currently importing all the component from China and assembling them at Sri City plant. On this, Hugo Barra said, “This is like the typical chicken and egg story. Unless there is any smartphone manufacturing happening in the country, you cannot expect to get components locally.” However, company plans to start procuring locally.

Redmi 2 Prime is available on Flipkart without any flash sale. The Redmi 2 Prime is almost similar to its predecessor, Redmi 2 except that it comes with double the RAM and ROM.

Other Specifications of Redmi 2 Prime:

This new establishment is an after effect of the MoU between Maharashtra state government and Foxconn Technology Group. Under this deal, Foxconn will be investing $5Bn over a span of five years in setting up a new manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra. For which, Maharashtra government will allot 1,500 acres of land for the establishment of this new facility at Taloja in Pune district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,said, “This investment of Rs 35,000 crore will generate jobs for 50,000 people in state.”

Also,  Xiaomi  had been recently funded by Ratan Tata in April, 2015.
