Mobile video game Fearless and United Guards (FAU-G), based on the clashes between the armies of India and China in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley in June last year, was launched on the Google Play Store on India’s Republic Day, January 26.
“Face the enemy. Fight for your country. Protect Our Flag. India’s most anticipated action game, Fearless and United Guards: FAU-G takes you to the frontlines and beyond!” wrote Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Twitter. Kumar is a presenter for the video game.
On November 30, 2020, FAU-G had gone live for pre-registration on the Play Store. nCore Games, which has developed FAU-G, had earlier disclosed that the game had clocked 1.05 Mn pre-registrations on the Play Store within 24 hours of the option going live.
FAU-G, developed by nCore Games, was first announced in September this year, around the time when PUBG Mobile was banned in India, as part of the government’s sweeping ban on 118 Chinese apps.
While PUBG Corporation has been trying to relaunch an India-specific version of PUBG Mobile in India, reports suggest that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has told the banned Chinese apps that the government’s ban would not be lifted anytime soon.
Discounting the obvious similarity in the genres of both video games, Vishal Gondal, the cofounder of nCore Games, who’s also the founder of fitness tech brand GoQII, has said in interviews that FAU-G is not meant to compete with PUBG.
Initial reviews of the video game on gaming forums have praised FAU-G’s storyline and the Hindi background audio. However, controls and graphics have received some flak from a section of users.
In September, Gondal of nCore Games had told Inc42 that FAU-G would target 50 Mn downloads in the first three months after its launch.
